It has been announced that the 15th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will be held in the seaside towns of Cha-am and Hua Hin in Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan during October 23- 25. To ensure the security during the upcoming summit, the government will enforce the special law around the meeting venues.
The government has earlier planned for the 15th ASEAN Summit to be held in Phuket but has decided to change the location, as in October in Phuke takes place the annual Vegetarian Festival, which is well attended by Thai and foreign tourist. This could have affected the necessary security arrangements of the ASEAN summit and could negatively impact tourism in Phuket
