On Sunday 28 December 2008 at 2:15pm His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has attended the Long Boat Race Festival at Kao Tao reservoir. This was a complete surprise as neither the Governor or Hua Hin Mayor knew anything about it. King Bhumibol was accompanied by His Majesty's niece HRH Thapuying Tasnavalai Sornsongkram.

There were many Royal Thai Army and Royal Thai Navy Generals in attendance. At that time Governor and Hua Hin Mayor were at the Long Boat Race Festival. Both of them have welcomed HM the King on his private visit to the Long Boat Race Festival. After warm welcome by the officials and Hua Hin residents present at the race, His Majesty stayed for about 90 minutes and has enjoyed the Long Boat Race competition until the last race.  

On the second day about 20 thousand people arrived to watch the Long Boat Races. The winning team was presented with King's Cup.
