School teachers protest against transfer of Director Wirat Manipruek

On Monday 12 January 2009 at 9 a.m. president of Hua Hin Thai Culture Association Tuck Dechapanya and members of education committees have presented flowers to Director of Hua Hin Municipality School Wirat Manipruek. Director Wirat Manipruek has been transferred last year by previous Hua Hin Mayor from Khao Takiab School to Hua Hin Municipality School. During his time at Hua Hin Municipality School he has done excellent job and teachers from this school are against his transfer.

At about 10 a.m. Vice Director of Hua Hin Municipality School Mrs Lapha Lohapan, 20 teachers and 25 students have gathered at the school and went to Hua Hin Municipality to meet Lord Mayor Jira Pongpaibul and tell him that they oppose transfer of Director Wirat Manipruek and his replacement with Mr Samarn Boon-hod who was the previous Director of Hua Hin Municipality School. They said to Hua Hin Mayor Director Wirat Manipruek did excellent job at Hua Hin School in contrast to previous director with which staff had problems.

Lord Mayor Jira Pongpaibul was explaining that he has decided transfer Director Wirat Manipruek because his position is level 9.  Hua Hin Municipality School has 1,600 students but Khao Takiab School has only 280 students, require director position at that school is level 8 and is more appropriate for Mr Wirat Manipruek. He will take over Khao Takiab School next month however he will assign commission which will assess the situation and will report back to Lord Mayor.

In the meantime on Wednesday 14 January 2009 at 10.00 a.m. 60 Khao Takiab villagers came to meet Mayor Jira at Hua Hin Municipality. They came to lobby Hua Hin Mayor to make sure that Director Wirat Manipruek will be transferred back to Khao Takiab School. They said that when Director Wirat Manipruek was previously at Khao Takiab School for about one year, he made many positive changes at the school: never used municipal budget, school has a new board displaying name of the school, set dress code for teacher as before very often they came to school wearing jeans and ensured that for teacher’s absences they have produced sick leave note or took annual leave. They have expressed their wish for Director Wirat Manipruek return to Khao Takiab School. Mayor Jira told them that he has assigned commission which will assess the situation and will report back to Lord Mayor. Then he will make final decision at which school Director Wirat Manipruek should work.
