Hua Hin foreign property buyers meet Hua Hin Chief District Officer

On Tuesday 25 March 2008 at 10.30 pm Mr. John Borke and another six foreign property buyers have met Hua Hin Chief District Officer to complain about property developer Mr. M. who runs five property projects. Hua Hin Chief District Officer Khun Prasit Boonlikit has welcomed all the foreign property buyers. For this meeting Chief District Officer has invited police officers from Hua Hin Police station and from Hua Hin Tourist Police.

Mr. John Borke has made complaint on behalf of the foreign buyers to Hua Hin Chief District Officer regarding developer Mr. M. Three years ago (in 2005) they have paid between 90-100% of the price towards the property and land purchase cost. Despite that three years have passed their houses are not finished. Mr Borke and the other foreign buyers claim that the developer has abandoned their project and never came back to finish the project where their houses supposed to be constructed. They claim that they have approached the developer but he apparently has told them that he does not have money.

Mrs Paula said to the Chief District Officer that she was supposed make payments in line with the house construction progress. She claims that the developer has broken the contract because there was no sufficient construction progress and she has stopped make payments to the developer. As she has refused to make further payments to the developer, this year the developer has sold her house to another foreigner buyer for apparently 6.5 million Baht. She said that once she has learned about the sale of her house she has asked the developer to pay her back the 2.5 million Baht she has paid to the developer. But she says that the developer doesn't want to pay her money back.

The foreigner property buyers present at the meeting have made further accusations that there are many other foreign property buyers who have paid money to this developer and have similar problems but they are afraid to come forward and make complaint because they are frightened of this developer.

Hua Hin Chief District Officer Khun Prasit Boonlikit and police officers have listened to the complaints made by the foreign property buyers. He said that he never had to deal with such a bad case. He said that it appears that the developer has defrauded the buyers. If what they have said is true than the developer has committed a serious crime. He has said that he will start civil case against the developer as soon as possible.

Khun Prasit said that Hua Hin Municipality will produce a leaflet “Beware of Scams“ for distribution to the potential foreign property buyers.

Any potential property buyers should contact Hua Hin Foreigner Service Link Center or Loong Tuck who will provide for the buyers appropriate advice.
