On 18 April 2008 at 10.00 the Election Commission has organized meeting with the candidates for the Mayor seat at Naresdamri Auditorium of Hua Hin Municipal Office. Attending to the meeting were two parties; Mr. Jira  Phongphaiboon, the former Mayor on behalf of the leader of the “Hopeful Hua Hin Group” and Mr. Siraphan  Kamolpramote, the current Mayor on behalf of “New Power Hua Hin Group”.

Members of the Prachuapkhirikhan Provincial Election Commission (EC) are: Mr. Damri Thongyom (the Election Commission), Mr. Prapas Chatmongkol (Chief of the election section) and Pol. Lt.Col.Charoen U-chupab (Chief of Legal Investigation). The meeting was also attended by the Chief of Political Parties Section Mr. Narongsak Det-Udom who has informed all present about the rules of the election for Hua Hin Mayor which must be strictly observed by all concerned. There must be no vote buying. If any of the candidates breaks the election rules, he will be disqualified or even prosecuted. The Election Commission hopes that candidates for Hua Hin Mayor will study properly the election regulations and run their campaign with transparency. Moreover, any person who sell votes (accept money for votes) will be also prosecuted. In addition to the Provincial EC and the Local EC assigned by the Province, the Hua Hin Mayor election will be monitored also by police officers, Hua Hin District officials and Hua Hin Municipal officers.

Mr. Prapas Chatmongkol said that the Provincial Election Commission has its Local Election Commission (the representative of EC) to monitor closely campaign of both candidates.

Pol. Lt. Col. Charoen U-chupab said that candidates for the forthcoming Hua Hin Mayor election are expected to be transparent. All concerned parties must act with honor and follow democratic rules. As long as there are attempts of selling-buying votes, the democracy seems hopeless. The Hua Hin Mayor election on May 11, 2008 is expected to be fair and transparent. Candidate which will break the election rules will be given either “red” or “yellow” card and he will be prevented from being candidate for the next election as well.
