Sermon at Hua Hin School

Sermon at Hua Hin SchoolOn Saturday 17th May 2008, Khun Rungthip Panyamang, the President of students at Phetchaburi Rajabhat University, General Management Center, Hua Hin, has organized a sermon on 'Dhamma with the Thai families at the present time' preached by Phra Maha Somporng and Phra Khru Winai Monks from Soi Thong Temple, Bangkok. About 1000 Hua Hin residents have listened to the sermon at Hua Hin School.

Khun Sujinda Aonkaew, the Director of Hua Hin Study Center, presided over the grand opening of ceremony of sermon-listening and then expressed his delight to the president of students at Phetchaburi Rajabhat University. Khun Rungthip Panyamang then gave short introduction to the sermon preached by monks; Phra Maha Somporng and Phra Khru Winai.

The sermon was basically focused on the Dhamma with the Thai families in the present time of globalization. The monks took turns during the sermon preaching. The two preachers also spoke about how to treat parents in a proper way. They have asked the students present at the sermon if they still perform the ceremony of cleaning their parents’ feet (as belief to show gratefulness), because according to the Thai belief, parents are said to be “Brahma” or the ones who are the most important to children, therefore, children should be grateful to their parents. Moreover, the two preachers also mentioned children which never have done anything good for their parents. They said that it is much easier do good than bad things. After that the preachers gave a chance to the students to exchange their ideas on how to treat their parents.

Both monks specialize in preaching sermons to families. The sermon will help students understand the roles of parents & children. The preachers also emphasized that the kindness of parents was the greatest thing in the world. Some of the children have never done anything good to their parents but have realized the importance of love when the death comes. All students have listened to the sermon and have appreciated the Dhamma teaching. Most of the students’ parents are alive and these students said that as soon as they finished listening to the sermon, they would go back home and would pay respect to their parent by palming their hands together on their parents’ laps.

The sermon was of a great benefit to students. Some of those students said that listening to the sermon was better that listening to preaching provided by national media as not many speakers would bring up the kindness and love of parents during the talk. Finally, the two preachers warned students that “Early ripe, early rotten”, and remember that doing good is much easier than doing bad things.
