First King's Royal Project

On 5th of December 2008, all seventy six provinces of Thailand will celebrate His Majesty the King’s 81st birthday. Governor of Prachuapkhirikhan Province Khun Panchai Borworn-Ratanapran held press conference regarding planned birthday celebration which will begin on 06 December 2008 and will last until 04 January 2009. During this time, there will be traditional dancing shows, Jazz in Town, traditional music performances and much more. Khun Panchai confirmed during press conference that for 30 days celebrations will take place in Hua Hin,  Pranburi District  and Prachuapkhirikan to celebrate HM the King’s birthday & Thai Father Day.

Their Majesties King and Queen, while living at Piam-suk, Klaikangwon Palace, have visited many villages in Prachuapkhirikhan Province. Almost every evening they would leave King’s Har Sai Yai residence to visit Khao Tao Village behind the mountain. Usually Hua Hin Chief District Officer would inform Village Chief and villagers beforehand about the visit.

All villagers would gather and prepare welcome for Their Majesties. The Village Chief and villagers brought usually many fruits from their plantations to present them to the King. Normally, for the private trip, the King preferred to drive the car by himself. He would often stop his car and walk to meet villagers and speak to them. The King in the conversation with villagers would ask how they live and what their family income is. And sometimes the King would meet villager who was sick and has no money for the doctor. In this kind of situation the King or the Queen would call doctor who carry out health check of the poor villager. If necessary he would pay for hospital treatment.

There was a time when the Queen has learned that villagers in a Kao Tao Village didn’t know how to read. The Queen has decided to teach them and after while the villagers have learned how to read.

During their tour of villages the King and the Queen met often old villagers. The villagers would sit down on the ground, look at Their Majesties and have a polite conversation with them. Sometime old woman would catch with her arm the hand of the King or the Queen and pull it gently to touch her head. The king and Queen didn’t mind.

Often when staying at Har Sai Yai residence, Their Majesties went for a trot (slow run) next to the Kao Tao village.  Usually in the evening the King would drive the car to Kao Tao and park the car near the reservoir. Then he would start to trot for about 2 kms to the King’s farm with the King’s followers. I was trotting too.

One day the King Bhumipol came to the area around the reservoir. At that time, the reservoir was a big swamp full of water. The reservoir was filled with water which came down from the mountain but during the monsoon time, the sea water was flowing to the reservoir and was mixing with the fresh water. And on that day the King has decided to help the Kao Tao villagers. The King said “I will try prevent the salty water flow to the reservoir’ And within three years the King has achieved his aim and has made all the Kao Tao villagers very happy.

Their Majesties, the King and the Queen are very kind to residents like the father & mother. Each year the whole Thailand celebrates King’s birthday on the 5th December and Queen’s birthday on the 12th of August. On that day all the ambassadors accredited in Thailand send their birthday wishes to Their Majesties.
