Mr. Athikhun Bootying, deputy mayor has announced that Hua Hin Municipality will organize every year Long Tail Boat Racing for King’s Cup. This year Long Tail Boat Racing for King’s Cup at Khao Tao reservoir took place during December 24-27 2009.
Hua Hin is regarded as one of the most beautiful resort towns, with white and long beach where HM. the King used to pay a visit his people. In the past the King realized that Khao Tao village, where a lot of villagers settled down, was shortage of fresh water for consumption and agriculture. HM the King gave his private property to the Department of Irrigation for a reservoir, which was the first royal project, in 1962. From that day Khao Tao residents have water from the reservoir.
It is generally known that water and Thai people are inseparable and long tail boat racing is of Thai traditions during water season. It is tradition showing the way of life of Thai rural community located next to rivers. Long tail boat racing is an old traditional sport seen in many provinces; Phichit, Naan, Phetchabun, Nakhonsawan, Surin, and other provinces with rivers during the end of Buddhist lent.
