Governor takes Mai-Jan-Hom tree to Bangkok

On Monday 11 February 2008 Governor of Prachuapkhirikhan Province Mr. Prasong Pitulkitja has shown Mai-Jan-Hom magic tree to Hua Hin residents. He and the provincial staff went recently to the Gui-Buri Jungle to find Mai-Jan-Hom tree. Thais believe that this tree has magic powers. In the past when the Thai prince, princess, king or queen has had a funeral, the cinerary urn was made out of Mai-Jan-Hom wood.

It is very difficult to find Mai-Jan-Hom tree, it is still possible to find in Gui-Buri Jungle. Before the tree is cut down, it is necessary to worship in front of the tree to get a permit from the tree spirit. The person cutting down the tree lights the incense and candle and apologizes to the tree spirit. Foods & fruits are offered to the tree. The ceremony ends when the incense & candle are burned to the end. Then the woodcutter starts to cut down the Mai-Jan-Hom tree.

Today Governor Mr. Prasong Pitulkitja has carried golden tray with Mai-Jan-Hom wood and has shown it to Hua Hin residents. Governor has led a procession from the Government Department to Hua Hin Municipality. The procession has arrived at 09am. Many government officials and Hua Hin residents have lined up along the footpath to welcome the procession and to see the wood from Mai-Jan-Hom magic tree.

Shortly after the residents saw Mai-Jan-Hom, the Governor took the wood from Mai-Jan-Hom magic tree to Bangkok to present it to the palace. The wood from Mai-Jan-Hom magic tree is or the funeral ceremony of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana who has died early this year.
