The Rajabhat University Students attended the seminar 'Sustainable Democracy'

Rajabhat University Students attended the seminarSunday 25 May, 2008, 09.00, at Hua Hin Grand Hotel and Plaza, Mr. Lamom Panyathorakhul, the secretary of the Mayor of Raikao Sub district, Samroi District, Prachuapkhirikhan Province, has organized a seminar for Rajabhat University Students titled “Sustainable Democracy”.

The President of the Student Union had invited Ph.D. Kaiwit Phuang-Ngarm, political and administrative science lecturer of Thammasat University, Mr. Somphong Thadpui, the director of the Local Organization Development Institute, and Mr. Theerasak Phanichawit, the secretary of SAO Association of Thailand, as lecturers at the seminar.

Mr. Somphong Phadpui spoke about the strategy in building up the democracy by the citizen, focusing on the people joining in drafting the laws and planning in the frame of democracy. It is noticeable that before drafting the constitution in the country, mostly, the district chief officers would introduce and make all procedures more concrete (touchable). It appeared that the former constitution was not really originated from those people. Mr. Somphong emphasized the definition of “Thaksin System” (Peaceful Insurgent of Communist Party waiting to destroy the junta and encounter democratic Thaksin).

Next Ph.D Kowit Phuang-Ngarm spoke about the Thai national economy consuming food and fuel. Since the price of fuel, food, rice and fresh food has been rapidly increased, it all affected consumers, meanwhile the government is not able to find the best solution at this moment, especially the fuel price affects all consumptions.

There were a lot of students sending pieces of paper with questions about the administration of the government and drafting the constitution which was not transparent because some officials tried to mislead the people. Moreover, the students also asked about corruption in Thailand comparing to Indonesia and in which country was bigger Ph.D. Somphong replied “It is the same!!!”. Then he also said that Singapore used to have big corruption in the past 30 years, but now the people in Singapore hate corruption, and there is no corruption in Singapore anymore. But in Thailand….there is more and more corruption. So that must be the main responsibilities of the people and students who need to find out solution to get rid of corruption.
