During the event, schools were provided with hygienic masks, antiseptic and other cleaning equipment for cleaning their desks, classrooms, knobs and doors at schools. The Big Cleaning Day was held at 7 Hua Hin schools during 4 days (July 16-19, 2009). Mr. Jira Phomgphaiboon said that schools were closed temporarily in order to prevent the spread of influenza A (H1N1) and let sick students take a rest at their home while the schools were being cleaned to ensure that influenza A (H1N1) would not come back again in the area. At Tessaban Baan Hua Hin Schools, Hua Hin Mayor Mr. Jira Phongphaiboon together with Mr. Athikhun Bootying and Ph.D. Rungrote Siluangsawat, Deputy Mayors was overseeing municipal officers from Public Health Section and Village Public Health Volunteers advising students how to correctly wash hands and how to prevent spread of influenza A (H1N1). In total 1,000 students attended the Big Cleaning Day.
