The province of Prachuap Khiri Khan, best known as the home of the Hua Hin seaside resort, is is developing a new tourist so far unseen by travellers.

The site, Singkhorn Checkpoint bordering Burma, is being developed by local authorities as one of the country's high potential tourist destinations.

The Singkhorn Strait is at narrowest point of southern Thailand. Local authorities say its charming surroundings could attract a large number of visitors if it is developed properly.

The site's historic value as a warriors' passage in the old days could also be a selling point, local authorities noted.

Development plans of the new tourist destination are being tailored so that both Thai and foreign visitors would be attracted. Authorities say they will be ready "in the near future."
