Two provinces slated for major development

Prachuap Khiri Khan City planning experts met here yesterday to discuss plans to develop Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi provinces into an economic, tourism and transport hub of the lower Central Region.

Kosin Kesthong, assistant to the interior minister, said the Interior Ministry, which gave much importance to integrated city planning for development in line with people's needs, wanted the Central Region to be developed into a centre for ecotourism, serviceand industries without adverse impacts on the environment.

Surapol Khatchamart, chief of the national and regional town planning office, said Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi were chosen for the development project because the provinces had many tourist attractions, were not far from Bangkok, and had the potential to accommodate expansion from Greater Bangkok and a future increase in traffic from the South once a motorway project is completed.
