Hua Hin Loi Krathong Festival

Hua Hin Loi Krathong Festival takes place in November on the full moon day of the twelfth lunar month, and the day when most of the festivities happen ("Loi Krathong Yai"). To many, Loi Krathong (sometimes called "yee ping" or the 'festival of lights') is the most beautiful festival and ceremony of the year in Hua Hin.

During Loi Krathong Festival Hua Hin Municipal staff, Hua Hin - Cha Am Tourism Association, hoteliers, school children, students, teachers and Hua Hin residents participate in the celebrations. In the evening Krathong parades processions walk around Hua Hin Municipality and then proceed to the Queen's Park. Each procession has about hundred persons, traditional Thai music band plays drums and brass instruments.

Many foreign residents who live in Hua Hin and foreign tourists stand at both sides of Petchakasem Road and watch the Loi Krathong parade and take photos. They enjoy the night very much.

At the Queen's Park official opening ceremony takes place. Music band plays traditional Thai songs. Twenty thousand of residents gather and wait until midnight to float their krathongs.

Similar Loi Krathong ceremony takes place at Khao Tao Village with about ten thousand villagers taking part. After opening ceremony, crowd of villagers carry krathongs to float them in the reservoir.
