Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISDA) is inviting the public to the International Kite Festival scheduled March 11-12 at the Marukathayawan Palace in Hua Hin, to celebrate 60 years of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne.

Conservationist Sommai Wattanamongkol will unveil a life-size kite that is a replica of the Thai Earth Observation System (THEOS) satellite. The THEOS kite will replicate space imaging by transmitting signals to the ground.

GISDA is also inviting the public to join in the making of a tetrahedron kite in a show of synergy of manpower and technology. In addition, the agency will present a kite arch comprising 60 smaller kites bearing the logo of the fifth cycle of His Majesty's reign.

There will be an exhibition of space technology and satellite imaging showing, among others, a view of the Marukathayawan Palace. For kids, a corner will be set aside where they can paint Thailand's traditional, Chula, Pakapao and THEOS kites, along with lucky draws and plenty of photo ops with THEOS and GISDA mascots.

Chula-Pakapao kite contests (individual and team events) are also on the cards, together with a demonstration of how they are made.

Japan's version of the world's largest kite, the Mega Moon, measuring 25x40 metres will be on show. Built last November by New Zealand designer Peter Lynn, it is the most recent in a series of three built so far that collectively hold the world record for biggest kites ever built.

Also on exhibition will be Mega Flag kites from the US and Kuwait, and from other countries such as Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, China, Malaysia and Taiwan.

Other fun activities include palace visit, sales of OTOP goods, food fair, fun games and other activities.
