Asanha Bucha Day (first day of the Buddhist Lent) starts on the first day of the waning moon of the eighth lunar month. Asanha Bucha also anticipates Kao Pansa, the three-month period of Buddhist penitence and fasting. It marks the anniversary of the day, on which the Buddha delivered the First Sermon called “the Dhammachakapavattana Sutta” to his first disciples more than two thousand five hundred years ago.
In the Buddha’s first sermon, there are mainly four great truths which lead to Nirvana and are the foundation doctrines of Buddhism.
One of the Buddha’s first disciples asked to be a monk. Therefore, the day also
marks the beginning of the worship of the Triple Gems. That is, this day is sacred because it
deals with the Lord Buddha (Buddha), His Teachings (Dharma), and His Disciples (Sangha). On Asanha Bucha Day Hua Hin temples arrange the ceremony of Buddhism Day in the evening. Many people come to lissen to Abbot's sermon. After prayers finish inside the temple, Abbot, the monks and people came out and start walk three times around the temple. |
