During the summit the leaders agreed to strengthen political, economic and sociocultural cooperation across the region. Asian leaders discussed plans at a summit to form an EU-style community by 2015. During the summit there was discussion about creation of an East Asian bloc which would involve ten ASEAN countries and regional partners China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand. East Asian nations will carry out a feasibility study for a huge free trade zone covering ASEAN, China, Japan and South Korea.

The 15th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and related meetings with the regional grouping’s dialogue partners was held in Cha-am and Hua Hin in Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan provinces south of Bangkok during 23- 25 October.
