River Kwai Overnight at Home Phutoy |
The infamous Bridge on the River Kwai and the “Death Railway” are must-see’s
when in this region of Thailand. This 2 days 1 night excursion will take you to all the
places connected with this period of World War II-history.
Day 1:
First day you leave early morning for the province of Kanchanaburi. First stop will be at the Tham Kasae cave whch was used as a field hospital during the war. Today thousands of bats has made the cave their home. Lunch at a local restaurant in the area and then continue to Hellfire Pass. Visit the museum and the pass and then back to the
hotel for check-in. You overnight at the Home Putoey Resort, located in beautiful surroundings next to the Kwai Noi river. The owner of the resort was a personal friend of Edward “Weary” Dunlop who was an Australian doctor and POW working on the railway. After Weary’s death a museum and exhibition to honor his memory was built on the resort. Dinner at the resort.
Day 2:
Day two starts with an early wakeup call and then breakfast. You leave in time to catch the 05:20 local train from Nam Tok station to Kanchanaburi. You travel with local people going to work and school children and to many this is one the absolute highlights of the tour.
Arrive to Kanchanaburi and visit the bridge itself. From the bridge you continue with Longtail boat to the Wat Tham Suea (The Tiger cave temple) with it’s exciting story. Next stop will be the JEATH-museum where paintings made by the POWs, photographs and other findings are on display. The museum itself is built as a replica of the huts the POWs where living in. Close by the museum you visit the war cemetery which still houses the last resting place of POWs from the Netherlands, United Kingdom and Australia.
Lunch at a “floating restaurant” on the river and depart for Hua Hin. Back in Hua Hin
late afternoon.
