I have had an opportunity to interview the new Hua Hin Mayor Mr. Jira Phongphaiboon. He disclosed that first of all he had to thank all Hua Hin residents for their supports. He said that he and his team had paid respect to Luang Pu Naak statue (a well-known monk who has passed away almost 100 years) at Hua Hin Temple and pledge (in front of the statue) to work for the Hua Hin Municipality with transparency and honesty. He and his team also swore that if he and his team failed to do what they had pledged, ruins would come to them soonest as promised, but if not, victory would come to them. Mr. Jira also added that many years ago he was as the Hua Hin Mayor. During his whole life, while working for local administration, he had never been corrupted and received bribes, but has worked for Hua Hin residents instead. At present he can return to his seat and administrate the organization again thanks to the mass votes he has received. He revealed that “his people went to vote for him with tears because they sympathized with him that he had no money to fight against others...” Mr. Jira reiterated that on his return as Hua Hin Mayor he will improve and upgrade Hua Hin, so it can become a tourism city. He will also improve water meters which are more expensive than usual, he will then assign the vice mayor to get in dept and take care of this issue. In case there is any corruption, he will deal with it immediately. His policy is to improve tap water, so it will be clean and drinkable tap water in the near future. Mr. Jira spoke about building construction permission that it takes several months at this moment to ask for official permission from the municipality. When he was a mayor in the past, he has ordered the Division of Public Works to issue a building permission certificate within 1 month but not now anymore. There are a lot of persisting problems in the municipality at this moment and he will review how Hua Hin Municipality works. He has announced that he is willing to assist Hua Hin residents with their problems and will give honest services from now on. The mayor and municipal council members election on May 11, 2008 has been concluded and the “Hopeful Hua Hin Group” or known as “Hua Hin Mai Sin Wang” lead by Mr. Jira Phongphaiboon, the Group Leader has won 15 municipal council members seats (from total 18 members seats available) and the election results have been certified by General Election Commission (EC).
