Long boats teams from many provinces came to compete for the King’s Cup. There were 8 teams in the large, 12 teams in the medium and 8 teams in the small long boat category. Each large long boat has 55 oarsmen, medium long boat has 30 oarsmen and small long boat has 7 oarsmen. During opening ceremony for the Long Boat Race event Hua Hin Lord Mayor Khun Jira Pongpaibul has thanked Governor, Hua Hin residents and all the long boat teams for coming to Long Boat Race Festival at Kao Tao reservoir. He has welcomed Somdej Pradhep who will present the winner with King’s Cup. He has thanked sponsors of the event for their financial support. Boonrod Trading Company donated one million baht toward organization of the Long Boat Race Festival. Other sponsors were: San Paolo Hospital, Hua Hin Hospital, TAT of Prachaupkhirikhan Province, Hua Hin Police Station, Tourist Police, Group Navy Security of the King, Kaoy Kuang Seng store, TT&T Centre Hua Hin branch, Hua Hin Chareon Company, Tourist Police and 34 Hua Hin Communities. Referees of the event have signaled start of the races. In each race two long boats competed against each other in three categories. Teams in long boats will compete for two days. Around the reservoir thousands of spectators have gathered to see the long boat races. They came from Prachaupkhirikhan and neighboring provinces. There was festive atmosphere at the Long Boat Race event.

On Saturday 27 December 2008 Governor, Hua Hin Mayor, government officials, school teachers, students, Hua Hin residents and tourists have gathered for the highly anticipated Long Boat Race at Kao Tao reservoir. In total over 10 thousand people arrived for the event and to see winner of the competition receive King’s Cup.
