The National Park of Sam Roi Yod District in Prachuapkhirikhan Province is well known worldwide. At the park there is protected area of wetland called in Thai Pandin choom-num. One section of this wetland has the lotus swamp which has about 20,000 rais. The lotus swamp is very shallow, just 50 centimeters deep. The swamp is near the sea, the water in swam is fresh, because the water flows whole year from the mountains nearby. The swamp never dries up. When tourists come to the swamp they can see lotus from the boat or they can walk on the wooden platform 900 meters long. During the lunch I have spoken with Khun Thaatchai. He said that the Sam Roi Yod National Park is a world heritage site. One of the attractions at the park is the lotus swamp. The best time to come and see the lotus swamp is January and April when the lotus blooms. The lotus seeds attract many kinds of birds which fly over the swamp and land on the lotus leafs. After our lunch ranger Khun Sompong Kijkai led us on a boat trip along the canal. Both sides of the canal are muddy strip of land forming bank along the edge of the river called in Thai language ‘Same and Koong Kang’. In the river there is plenty of fish and crabs. On both side of the canal are mountains providing fantastic views.
